01 / How the game works
RELAY games help you learn AI through practice. An agent guides the story and helps you work with files. You make decisions, set boundaries, and check the results.
Your station needs its first signal. Describe the control panel that will send it.
Explain your idea in everyday language. Ask for a plan, set the boundaries, and approve changes.
Open the file and press the button. Did the signal light up? That matters more than a reply saying “done”.
Your task for AI
“Build a station control panel. Pressing the button should turn on a signal. Show me the plan first.”
Press the button and see what changes.
An interactive example of how the game works, not a recording of gameplay.
02 / What you’ll learn
Seven missions take you from your first task to a project someone else can run.
Build habits you can use in your own projects, from clear requests to safe changes.
What’s in the chapterFind the created file through its link, open it, and check the result. Understand approval prompts. Give commands through the composer and teach the agent to treat untrusted text in files as data, rather than instructions.
Files · checking results · approvalSeparate standing rules, working data, and the context of a single task. Continue in a new chat and find files by path, without repeating every rule in every message.
Memory · context · absolute and relative pathsTell commands, processes, runtimes, and dependencies apart. Read terminal output and exit codes. Account for the environment, agent permissions, sandbox, and terminal restarts.
Command · process · runtime · dependencyDefine the goal, files, boundaries, and how to check success. Ask for a plan before changes, refine your request, choose a model and reasoning effort, and carry context into a new conversation.
Goal · boundaries · plan · done criteriaLimit actions before connecting a bot. Keep secrets in .env, grant only the permissions needed, and control network access. Separate instructions, untrusted data, and actions.
Secrets · scope · least privilege · networkWork through three levels of practice prompt-injection attacks. Check whether outside text can make the agent break your rules, and learn how to protect your work.
Three prompt-injection levels · practice dataUse Git inside Codex to check status and changes, save versions, and restore them. Install a skill. Write setup instructions and a report someone else can use to fix a problem.

This is where the world was built. The doors remember commands but no longer understand them. From here, you can see what broke.

This is where connections were kept alive. Every channel is open, yet silent. From here, you can see why it happened.
Choose the role that speaks to you
Both roles follow the same learning program.
04 / Beyond the main mission
Bonus challenges are included in Chapter I.
🔥 Forge Sparks and 💠 Echo Fragments give you another chance to use what you’ve learned. Complete bonus challenges to earn Relay Coins.

Before the first signal
The first chapter introduces the basics of working with an agent through practice: explaining a task, opening the result, and checking changes. You’ll learn your way around files and new technical ideas as you play.
Both. You play story missions and solve practical challenges with AI to move forward. Use the skills you learn in your own projects.
No, you can start solo. The price covers both main roles for one team of two. The Keeper and Signal Operator have different stories, but learn the same skills in Chapter I.
